How can we build a stronger and more consistent prevention framework across Europe?

A literature review conducted by the HIPE team revealed that a stable professional core already exists. More than 500 competence items were identified, suggesting that the main challenge is not a lack of knowledge about what prevention professionals need, but how these competencies are organised and translated into coherent education and training.

In the current phase of the project, HIPE is developing a competence architecture for its prevention curriculum. This architecture will enable universities to:

  • establish a shared core alongside role-specific learning pathways;
  • translate professional tasks into assessable learning outcomes;
  • connect classroom learning with supervised practice; and
  • support progression towards independent professional performance.

Felvinczi Katalin’s presentation at the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) 2026 in Dublin provided valuable insights for the project’s next phase. Building on the ideas shared in Dublin, HIPE will continue working towards more connected, accessible and high-quality prevention education—and a stronger, more consistent prevention framework across Europe.
