Mobility opportunities and international learning

The alliance increases opportunities in terms of student mobility, partly because one of its objectives is to provide in all programmes courses with built-in mobility. Some methods to achieve this are COILs (Collaborative Online International Learning) and BIPs (Blended Intensive Programme).

In other words, the alliance offers special advantages for students, explains Liesbet Cosyn, HOGENT coordinator for U!REKA: “In any case, it is enriching for students to work with fellow students from other European educational institutions on hot and broad topics. Thanks to the U!REKA European University, there will be more and better opportunities for students to develop their own international learning path.”

Open courses

It is U!REKA’s ambition to offer several open courses and  microcredentials. Cooperation programmes such as minors and joint degrees will also be developed. The microcredential programme ‘sustainability coordinator’, which HOGENT will offer for the first time in the academic year 2024-2025, is the first initiative of this kind.

Student engagement

Within U!REKA European University, HOGENT leads a work package on student and stakeholder engagement. Based on the HOGENT participation model a student council and participation policy within U!REKA has been developed. The U!REKA Student Council meanwhile was launched during the U!REKA Connects event, early June 2024 in Ostrava, partly thanks to the efforts of HOGENT-students Maxim van Impe and Sukh Preet Singh. The city of Ghent - an associate partner of U!REKA - has not missed their efforts either: on 3 July 2024, Singh was elected Ghent Student of the Year exactly because of his commitment to that participatory project.
