Our research domains.

Work with us.

Agriculture and horticulture

The experimental farm in Bottelare (HOGENT/UGENT) provides a well-equipped facility for practical research on crop protection and sustainable crop management. The 50-hectare farm includes more than 25,000 experimental plots, specialised machinery and a phytopathological laboratory. We conduct field experiments and pot trials on arable crops, breeding programmes and silage. Expertise is available in hemp fibre cultivation and processing, integrated pest management and functional agrobiodiversity. The farm also supports collaborative research with companies on product development and crop protection.

Food

Our food labs are equipped with extensive infrastructure to address questions related to product development, product evaluation and food safety. We offer support in optimising recipes and labelling, organising sensory analyses, and drawing up product specifications. We perform microbiological, texture and nutritional analyses and provide advice on hygiene, allergen management and food legislation.

Brewery and fermentation

The Innovation Centre for Brewery & Fermentation (HOGENT/UGent) has extensive experience in research and services for the Belgian brewing industry. Its 70-litre pilot brewery is ideal for test brews, while the well-equipped laboratory supports physicochemical and microbiological analyses of barley, malt, wort, hops, beer and yeast. Expertise includes fermentation, yeast management, gluten-free and low- and non-alcoholic beer production, alternative cereals, isothermal brewing and the use of bread losses in brewing processes.

Multifunctional green management

Our experts offer advice and support on natural pest management and (functional) biodiversity in public green spaces, the restoration and management of natural grasslands, and the design and management of inspiring, biodiverse gardens for healthcare centres.
