This one-semester programme (March 3, 2025 - May 31, 2025) 'Sustainability Coordinator', totaling 30 ECTS, is designed to prepare you for the role of a sustainability coordinator within an organisation or a sustainability advisor. Become a sustainability pioneer in the first European internationally-oriented micro-credential programme certified with a UNITAR training certificate, and also the first micro-credential programme of the U!REKA European University.

By completing this programme, you will gain comprehensive expertise in working with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and EU sustainability reporting standards. You will also acquire a practical toolkit for effectively functioning as a sustainability advisor. The programme adopts interactive teaching methods and encompasses the competences defined in the European Sustainability Competence Framework, commissioned by the European Commission.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between HOGENT and CIFAL Flanders | UNITAR, recognised by a UNITAR training certificate for participants. UNITAR is the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.

The programme's course structure is as follows:

We start with a foundational understanding of sustainable development in the course "The UN and sustainable development". Further exploration of the different SDGs is facilitated through four specific courses: SDGs for the Planet, SDGs for People, SDGs for Prosperity, and SDGs for Peace and Partnership. A separate course focuses on Circular entrepreneurship and sustainable innovation.

As a sustainability coordinator, you will require a toolkit to guide your work. This includes the ability to measure and report value creation by applying EU sustainability reporting standards. You will also need to effectively communicate, raise awareness, and initiate change. These essential skills are developed in the courses on budgeting, measuring and reporting value creation and in the course change management, and communication.

The programme culminates in a Sustainability Coordinator Project. In this project, you will identify the necessary steps for an organisation to achieve a sustainable future scenario. You will formulate a sustainability strategy and develop a proposal for its implementation, applying all the competencies acquired during your training.
