This workshop will explore key communication theories, including high-context vs. low-context cultures, verbal and nonverbal communication differences, and strategies for fostering inclusive communication. The session will consist of one hour of theoretical training and 30 minutes of interactive exercises to apply key concepts in practice.

- Identify and analyse the cultural differences in communication styles and their impact on academic interactions.
- Implement strategies to improve communication effectiveness in multicultural environments, emphasising inclusive language and awareness of nonverbal cues.

Multi-class: social class, culture and first-generation students in higher education
11.30h – 13:00h on campus KASK – trainer: David Van Bunder (HOGENT)
This session is based on two research tracks we have worked on over the past few years. On the one hand, the Multiclass project, which focused on making multicultural classrooms in higher education more inclusive. On the other hand, we will incorporate results from our research on first-generation students—students whose parents did not obtain a higher education degree. We aim to offer insight into how social class influences culture(s) of students in higher education and how this might increase social inequalities instead of reducing them.
Learning outcomes:
- Participants gain insight into how social class influences culture(s) of students in higher education and how this might increase social inequalities instead of reducing them.

Saturday 29 March
Public performance 17h @ City hall Ghent
The BIP project “RLLR.XXL” gathers 50 percussionists from major conservatories in Europe around a simple but genius concept by Julian Sartorius. They will join forces to activate the medieval centre of Gent with rolling drum patterns and analogue sound filtering. All conservatories will prepare the concept beforehand in their respective classes, and the students of the Advanced Master in Contemporary Music of KASK & Conservatorium will be responsible for the preparation of the filtering objects and the overall dramaturgy. They will be joined together in partial rehearsals at first and will rehearsal in full numbers two days before the concert.
The final concert is scheduled for the 29th of March at 5 pm under the city hall (Stadshal) of Ghent. Feel free to join and be part of this magnificent event!
