The Mercator D residence

Mercator is located in Nonnemeersstraat 19, 9000 Gent, which is approximately 1.7 kilometres from the city centre of Ghent.

Rooms

  • 12 square metres
  • single bed with
  • furnished with a bed (mattress, duvet and pillow included), desk & chair, wardrobe, small fridge and bookshelves
  • free internet access is available in all rooms (Wi-Fi + LAN)

The toilets, showers, kitchen, washer and dryer are shared with other students.

The rent for a student room in Mercator D is 275 euros per month. This includes 55 euros/month for heating, water, electricity, internet and cleaning of shared facilities. The rental period is 12 months.

To confirm your booking, you will be asked to pay a 400 euro security deposit, which will be reimbursed after your stay if you leave the room behind in a clean condition.

Applicants must at the beginning of academic year:

  • be enrolled at HOGENT with a degree contract for a minimum of 27 credits
  • be eligible for child benefit or be under 25 years of age
  • have not yet exceeded the maximum duration of stay in a HOGENT residence. The maximum duration of a stay at a student residence is equal to the foreseen study duration of the standard graduate’s, bachelor’s or master’s programme upon the student's first enrolment at HOGENT, in every case extended by one academic year. Each academic year for which the student was previously enrolled at an institution of higher education is also taken into account when calculating the maximum duration indicated above.

You do not need to be enrolled at HOGENT at the time of application. The application is not binding. We do ask you to inform us by e-mail if the application may be dropped.

  • Students who already have a room will be given priority over new applicants as long as they have not exceeded the maximum duration of a stay in a HOGENT student residence.
  • Scholarship and near scholarship students are given priority over students who are not scholarship-eligible.
  • Generation students are given priority over students who have previously attended higher education.

Degree seeking students can apply for a room by sending an email to huisvesting@hogent.be in which they express their interest in a student room in student residence Mercator D.

Rooms requested before 1 June will be allocated on the based on the priority rules. On 1 June, available rooms will be allocated. If you get a room, you will also immediately receive the rental agreement and internal regulations via email. No room available for you? You will remain on the waiting list until you get a room or until you let us know you may be dropped. You can request your place on the waiting list from 7 June at huisvesting@hogent.be.

Students must clean their own room. Kitchens, living rooms and sanitary provisions are cleaned by the cleaning team, but students are expected to help ensure that the common spaces remain hygienic.
